Broström Procedure

Chronic lateral ankle instability.

ATFL and CFL.
Surgical concept
Imbricate and repair the lateral ankle ligaments, often reinforced with the extensor retinaculum (Gould modification).
Indications
  • Recurrent giving way after rehab
Common alternatives
  • Neuromuscular training
  • Bracing
Recovery concept
Boot immobilization, then progressive rehab. Return to sport often after several months.

  • Stiffness
  • Nerve irritation
  • Recurrent instability
